🧱
Foundation
The non-negotiable baseline — supplements Dr. Weber takes daily regardless of training load, season, or goals. If you’re only going to start somewhere, start here.
🐟
Omega-3 / Fish Oil
High-Dose EPA/DHA Fish Oil
Foundation Anti-Inflammatory Brain Health
Omega-3 fatty acids are the most well-researched anti-inflammatory supplement available — with a direct mechanism of action on the same inflammatory pathways driving disc degeneration, joint pain, and cardiovascular disease. Most Americans consume far too many omega-6 fatty acids relative to omega-3s, creating a pro-inflammatory baseline that accelerates nearly every chronic disease process. High-dose EPA/DHA fish oil is Dr. Weber’s single most recommended supplement for patients with chronic spinal pain and inflammation.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:2–4g combined EPA/DHA daily with a meal containing dietary fat. Look for a triglyceride-form product with third-party purity testing (IFOS certified). Refrigerate after opening.
☀️
Vitamin D3 + K2
Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 (MK-7)
Foundation Bone Density Immune Function Hormonal Health
Vitamin D deficiency is extraordinarily common — particularly in Northern Virginia where sun exposure is limited for much of the year — and is linked to reduced bone density, impaired immune function, muscle weakness, and mood dysregulation. D3 must be paired with K2 (MK-7 form) to direct calcium to bone and away from arterial walls, making the combination significantly safer and more effective than D3 alone. Dr. Weber tests his patients’ 25-OH vitamin D levels and dosing is adjusted based on bloodwork — this is one supplement where optimal dosing is highly individual.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:2,000–5,000 IU D3 + 100–200mcg K2 (MK-7) daily with the fattiest meal of the day. Get bloodwork before and after to dial in your dose. Optimal serum level: 50–80 ng/mL.
⚡
Magnesium
Magnesium Glycinate
Foundation Sleep Quality Muscle Function
Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body — including muscle contraction and relaxation, energy production, nerve transmission, and protein synthesis. Magnesium deficiency is extremely common in active adults and is directly associated with muscle cramping, poor sleep quality, elevated cortisol, and impaired recovery. Glycinate is the preferred form — better tolerated, better absorbed, and no laxative effect at therapeutic doses unlike magnesium oxide or citrate.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:300–400mg magnesium glycinate 30–60 minutes before bed. The evening timing leverages magnesium’s parasympathetic nervous system effects for improved sleep onset and quality.
🦴
Spinal & Joint Health
Targeted support for the structures Dr. Weber works with every day — disc tissue, cartilage, joint fluid, and connective tissue integrity.
🧬
Collagen
Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides (Type I & III)
Spinal Health Connective Tissue Disc Support
The intervertebral discs, spinal ligaments, tendons, and cartilage are all collagen-dense structures — and collagen synthesis declines with age, stress, and poor nutrition. Supplementing with hydrolyzed collagen peptides provides the specific amino acid profile (glycine, proline, hydroxyproline) that the body uses to repair and rebuild connective tissue. Research supports taking collagen alongside vitamin C 30–60 minutes before physical activity to direct amino acids toward connective tissue repair rather than general protein metabolism.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:10–15g hydrolyzed collagen peptides with 50–100mg vitamin C, 30–60 minutes before exercise or morning movement. Mix into coffee, tea, or water — unflavored versions are largely undetectable.
💛
Curcumin
Curcumin with Piperine (or Liposomal)
Spinal Health Anti-Inflammatory Joint Pain
Curcumin — the active compound in turmeric — is one of the most extensively studied natural anti-inflammatory agents, with research showing meaningful reduction in inflammatory cytokines, joint pain, and muscle soreness at therapeutic doses. The critical caveat: standard curcumin has very low bioavailability. Dr. Weber specifically recommends formulations that address this — either piperine-enhanced (BioPerine), phospholipid-bound (Meriva), or liposomal forms — which dramatically improve absorption compared to standard turmeric powder.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:500–1,000mg curcumin (as high-bioavailability formulation) with a meal containing fat. Standard turmeric powder in food does not provide therapeutic concentrations — use a concentrated extract.

Performance & Training
What Dr. Weber takes around training — for energy, strength output, and recovery. All evidence-based, all products he personally uses.
💪
Creatine
Creatine Monohydrate
Performance Muscle Brain Health
Creatine monohydrate is the most researched performance supplement in existence — with decades of human trials consistently demonstrating improved strength, power output, muscle mass, and recovery. More recently, emerging research shows meaningful cognitive and neuroprotective benefits as well. Creatine monohydrate is also the cheapest effective form — there is no evidence that any more expensive creatine variant (HCl, ethyl ester, etc.) outperforms plain monohydrate. Dr. Weber takes it year-round, not just during heavy training blocks.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:3–5g creatine monohydrate daily — timing is flexible, consistency matters more than when. No loading phase necessary. Mix into anything. Buy the plainest, cheapest, third-party tested monohydrate you can find.
🥩
Protein
Whey Protein Isolate (or Collagen + Whey blend)
Performance Muscle Recovery Protein Targets
Protein powder is not magic — it’s a convenient way to hit your daily protein target when whole food sources fall short. Whey isolate is Dr. Weber’s preference for post-training use: high in leucine (the primary trigger for muscle protein synthesis), rapidly digested, and well-tolerated. For patients who are dairy-sensitive, a well-formulated plant blend (pea + rice for complementary amino acid profiles) is a reasonable alternative. The brand matters less than the amino acid profile and third-party testing.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:25–40g whey isolate post-training or as a meal supplement when protein from food is insufficient. Daily protein target: 0.7–1g per pound of bodyweight for body composition goals.

Gut & Immune Health
The gut is the foundation of the immune system and a major driver of systemic inflammation — which means it directly affects everything else, including spinal health and recovery.
🦠
Probiotic
Multi-Strain Probiotic (50+ Billion CFU)
Gut Health Immune Function Inflammation
The gut microbiome is one of the most active areas of health research — with established connections to immune function, inflammation, mood, cognitive performance, and even body weight regulation. A high-quality probiotic supports microbiome diversity, reduces intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), and modulates systemic inflammation. Strain diversity and colony count both matter — Dr. Weber recommends multi-strain formulations with at least 50 billion CFU and a mix of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, with guaranteed potency at expiration rather than at manufacture.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:1 capsule (50B+ CFU, multi-strain) with or after a meal. Refrigerate. Rotate brands/strains periodically to maintain microbiome diversity. Pair with prebiotic-rich foods.

Sleep & Recovery
Sleep is the most underrated lever in both weight loss and physical performance. These are the supplements Dr. Weber uses to optimize sleep quality — not quantity.
😴
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha Root Extract (KSM-66 or Sensoril)
Stress Sleep Quality Cortisol
Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb with robust clinical evidence for reducing cortisol, improving subjective sleep quality, reducing perceived stress, and in some studies improving body composition and exercise recovery. The key is using a standardized extract — KSM-66 and Sensoril are the two most-researched branded extracts with the most consistent clinical evidence. Generic ashwagandha powder of unknown potency is not reliably effective. Dr. Weber takes this primarily for stress modulation and sleep quality rather than as a direct sleep aid.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:300–600mg KSM-66 (or equivalent standardized extract) in the evening, 30–60 minutes before bed. Give it 4–6 weeks of consistent use to assess full effect — adaptogen benefits are not immediate.
🌙
Melatonin
Low-Dose Melatonin (0.3–1mg)
Sleep Onset Circadian Reset
Melatonin is widely misused — most commercial products contain 5–10mg, which is far above the physiological dose shown to be effective in research. The optimal sleep-onset dose is actually 0.3–1mg, not 5–10mg. Higher doses can cause grogginess, disrupt circadian rhythm over time, and blunt the body’s own melatonin production. Dr. Weber uses low-dose melatonin specifically for circadian rhythm adjustment — travel, late nights, and schedule shifts — rather than as a nightly sleep aid.
Dr. Weber’s Protocol:0.3–0.5mg 30–60 minutes before desired sleep time. Use situationally (travel, schedule disruption) rather than nightly. Lower dose = more targeted circadian effect, less morning grogginess.
